Purchase order vs invoice
The buyer issues a purchase order before the order; the seller issues an invoice after delivery to request payment, usually quoting the PO number. When it's your turn to bill, use the free invoice generator, and read proforma invoice vs invoice to see how a proforma invoice fits between the two.
Is my data safe?
Yes. All calculations and PDF generation happen in your own browser — your purchase order is never uploaded to any server, and closing the page clears it.
FAQ
What is a purchase order?
A purchase order (PO) is a document a buyer sends to a vendor to formally request goods or services. It lists the items, quantities, agreed prices and a delivery date, and acts as a binding offer once the vendor accepts it.
What is the difference between a purchase order and an invoice?
A purchase order is issued by the buyer before the order to request goods or services, while an invoice is issued by the seller after delivery to request payment. The PO number is usually referenced on the matching invoice. See our /invoice-generator/ to create the invoice side, and /guides/proforma-invoice-vs-invoice/ for how a proforma invoice fits in.
Is this purchase order generator free?
Completely free, no sign-up, and the exported PDF has no watermark.
Is my purchase order data uploaded to a server?
No. Everything you type, all calculations, and the PDF are handled in your own browser — nothing is uploaded, and closing the page clears it.
What is a PO number and where does it go?
A PO number is a unique reference you assign to each purchase order (for example PO-0001). It lets both sides track the order, and the vendor should quote it on the matching invoice so payments reconcile against the right order.
Can I add my company logo?
Yes. Upload an image under "Logo" and it appears at the top-left of the purchase order; the image is processed locally in your browser and never uploaded.
